PreFlux
initial research project of MA

Preflux was the first research module of an MA. Our research methodology was based around an development / experimentation cycle.

Our academic reading during PreFlux centered on the concept of presence and particularly focused on the relationship of the presence of the onstage physical performer to the presence of the viewer, as mediated through the virtual camera of the computer model. Further, we investigated how this relationship altered duringvirtual choreography instigated by the cyber-dancer, such as whenBrian moved the view of the computer model using the joystick and the viewer would kinaestheticly sense a change in their presence.

We also began to see that the combination of the cyber-dancer and the technology created a performance entity (see computer as performer) a concept that we later developed into the Cyborg.
