In this workshop students are given a fun, whirlwind, experiential journey
in creating ‘Virtual Reality Theatre’ environments. 3D computer
models provided by us are animated and projected over the whole ‘stage’
space superimposing a virtual space over the physical space. Students
will explore the process of performing with the virtual space, and learn
how to control the digital scenery and accompanying soundscapes. We facilitate
students to engage with the creative process through three different perspectives,
that of director, audience, and performer. These diverse perspectives,
using a series of specific improvisation exercises, guide students toward
understanding the creative potential and some of the unique challenges
that arise from working with ‘Virtual Reality Theatre’. We
will end with a discussion on the students’ thoughts about what
they created and learnt.
